When it comes to dieting there are many different options out there to choose from. It can get really overwhelming to know which one to choose and have the courage and determination to stick to it. However for me my doctor recommended the Keto diet to give a try, as he knew of people that had alot of success with it and it does work if it is followed properly.

The ketogenic diet or Keto diet for short is a low carb, high fat diet that offers many health benefits. There has been alot of talk lately of this diet with some amazing results not only physically ie losing weight but medically also and in some cases reducing the symptoms of some illnesses.

The diet involves replacing carbohydrates with fat. This reduction in carbs puts the body into a state called ketosis. The increased ketones lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity in the body.

The ketogenic diet should consist of about 60–80% fat, 10–30% protein, and no more than 5–10% — or 20–50 grams — of carbs per day. Focus on high fat, low carb foods like eggs, meats, dairy, and low carb vegetables, as well as sugar-free beverages. Be sure to limit highly processed foods and trans fats.

Some foods included in a Ketogenic Diet are

Avocados

Meat and poultry

Nuts and seeds

Cheese and eggs

Low carb veggies

Fatty fish ie salmon and tuna

Salad

Protein powder - add to your shake for an extra boost of protein.

There are plenty of recipes not only online, also at the library, your local book store or download a keto recipe app to help you get started like the one below which is free to download.

Please note before starting any diet consult with your doctor should you have any health conditions as this diet is not for everyone and it isnt recommended to stay on it for a long period of time as it's so restrictive. Once you have hit your ideal weight you can slowly introduce carbs but still don't overload on them.

Whatever diet you choose healthy food choices should be a part of every day life a healthy diet is a journey and takes discipline to get the results you are wanting.
