Sleep is an important aspect of our every day lives, however more and more people are experiencing insomnia since the pandemic happened and our lives have gotten busier. Waking up in the middle of the night, trouble falling asleep and or partner disturbances, are becoming the new normal. However this does start to impact our daily lives and our work life.
Another cause of lack of sleep maybe a racing mind, over tiredness or stress from what is happening in your life.
If we don't have enough sleep our brain gets fuzzy, our motor skills for driving etc.. aren't as good and our body doesn't have time to rejuvenate and heal itself.
Here are some great tips I found to get your sleep back on track and have you waking up feeling refreshed and ready to take on your day in no time.
1. Apps to help you Sleep
Calm is a great app that has many sleep sounds and people reading stories to help you drift off to sleep. They do have a free trial but then it costs to carry on with it.
Balance is also a great app has a whole section on sleep. From forest to rain sounds to deep breathing has a multitude of different options. Listening to one of these I'm out within 3 minutes they do work
2. Lavender Oil
Lavender for a long time has been a great oil for relaxation.. Lavender can calm your mind and improve your sleep including helping with insomnia.
Lavender essential oil contains potent chemical components such as linalool, linalyl acetate and camphor4 that act as anxiety relievers and sedatives. These components interact with the brain and nervous system to reduce agitation and restlessness.
Add a few drops to your oil burner with a mixer and breathe in the vapour or add a few drops to your pillow. Definitely helps relax me.

6. A good pillow
It's amazing how much a good pillow can change your whole nights sleep. I personally like the feather down ones they seem to mould to your head better. There are many different pillows on the market it's about finding the one thats right for you.
7. Yoga or Pilates
I personally enjoy pilates only because the movements are a little easier to get into and it promotes long lean muscles. However I have tried yoga classes before and by the end of the class I was nearly asleep and so relaxed, so practicing yoga or pilates at night time can help unwind and relax you.
Hopefully these tips help a little to get those 💤 s back you maybe craving.
Because when you do get a good night's sleep it's amazing how refreshed you are and can tackle the day ahead of you.
