There is something I really love about finding one product that you can throw into your handbag, take away on a road trip and reach for whenever your skin needs a little extra moisture.

So when I discovered PoiPoi Original Lanolin Cream, the idea immediately appealed to me.

The tagline says it all – “The cream for everything, everywhere.”

And honestly, who doesn't love a product that can do a little bit of everything?

What is PoiPoi Lanolin Cream?

PoiPoi Original Lanolin Cream is a New Zealand-made multi-purpose moisturising cream designed to be used wherever your skin needs some extra care.

It contains lanolin, aloe leaf, collagen, vitamin E and ovine placenta, with lanolin being the hero ingredient. PoiPoi describes it as lightweight, fast-absorbing and non-greasy, making it suitable for areas such as hands, face, elbows and dry patches.

And being a New Zealand-made product is something I always like to see.

Why lanolin?

Lanolin comes from sheep's wool and has been used in skincare for a very long time. PoiPoi uses New Zealand lanolin and says its lanolin is lightly cleaned, with more than 95% of its natural wax esters retained. It is recovered from freshly shorn wool using warm water and centrifugal separation.

What makes lanolin particularly interesting is its ability to help lock moisture into the skin while creating a breathable barrier.

For me, this is exactly what I want from a good everyday moisturiser – something that leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished without feeling like I've coated myself in a thick layer of cream.

One cream, so many uses

This is where I think PoiPoi really stands out.

You don't necessarily need a different cream for every part of your body.

Hands feeling dry? PoiPoi.

Elbows needing some extra moisture? PoiPoi.

Dry patches? PoiPoi.

Skin feeling a little tight and thirsty? PoiPoi.

The brand recommends applying it liberally to hands, arms or anywhere else that needs some extra care.

I also love the idea of keeping a tube in my bag when I'm out and about. Living in New Zealand and spending plenty of time outdoors, my skin gets exposed to plenty of different conditions, so having something simple that I can reach for whenever I need it makes sense.

What's inside?

There are some lovely ingredients in this little tube.

Lanolin helps lock in moisture and soften the skin.

Aloe leaf provides lightweight hydration and a calming feel.

Collagen helps skin retain moisture and feel supple.

Vitamin E is a well-known antioxidant that helps protect the skin from everyday environmental stress.

Ovine placenta is another ingredient PoiPoi uses as a traditional New Zealand skincare ingredient, containing proteins and amino acids that condition the skin.

It's quite an interesting combination for an everyday moisturiser.

What I like about PoiPoi

There are a few things that immediately stand out to me.

Firstly, it's made in New Zealand.

Secondly, I love the versatility. I'm always a fan of products that can be used for more than one thing because let's be honest – nobody needs a bathroom cabinet overflowing with dozens of different products.

And thirdly, the 100ml tube is a really handy size for keeping in your handbag, beside the bed or taking away when travelling.

It also has that lovely connection to New Zealand's wool industry through lanolin, which makes it feel like a product that is very much at home here in Aotearoa.

My verdict

If you are looking for a simple, everyday moisturiser that can be used from head to toe, PoiPoi Lanolin Cream is definitely one to put on your radar.

I love the philosophy behind it – one cream rather than a different product for every little dry patch.

At the time of writing, the Original Lanolin Cream is $18.90 NZD for 100ml, and PoiPoi also offers it in a six-pack gift option.

For a New Zealand-made multi-purpose cream that combines lanolin with aloe, collagen and vitamin E, I think this is a really handy addition to your skincare collection.

Sometimes the simplest products are the ones you end up reaching for the most.

And with PoiPoi, the clue really is in the name:

The cream for everything, everywhere. 🐑🇳🇿
